WHAT TO EXPECT

We understand that visiting a church for the first time can be a bit intimidating. Hopefully, the following questions and answers will let you know what to expect and make you feel comfortable visiting us.

What should I wear?

We don’t have a dress code. Some of our members demonstrate their reverence for God by wearing a suit and tie; others demonstrate their Christian freedom by wearing a t-shirt and jeans.

Where do I park?

We have two parking lots. You can enter the west lot from Maple Street or Highland Boulevard. You can enter the east lot from 12th Avenue.

What should I do when I get there?

When you arrive, an usher will give you a service folder. This service folder contains an outline of the day’s service as well as an explanation of the service’s theme and context within the church year. Once you’ve received a service folder, feel free to stay in the fellowship hall for a while to chat with our members or to find a seat in the sanctuary for quiet meditation.

How will I know what to do during the service?

The entire service will be displayed for you on the large screens in the front of the sanctuary. If you’d like, you can use the hymnal in your pew; page numbers and hymn numbers are always included on the screens so that you can follow along. For more information on our services, click here.

Can I receive Holy Communion when I visit?

St. Martin’s follows the Scriptural and historical practice of closed Communion. We believe that Holy Communion is a sacred and powerful thing. For this reason, we ask all guests and visitors to speak with one of our pastors before participating.
